๐Ÿ† GSL (Global StarCraft League)

$500,000+

The GSL is the most prestigious StarCraft II tournament, running since 2010 in South Korea. Winning a GSL Code S title is the ultimate achievement. Legends like Maru (4x champion), MVP, and Innovation have etched their names in esports history here.

๐Ÿ“œ History & Legacy

The Birth of Esports

StarCraft: Brood War (1998) essentially created esports in South Korea. Professional leagues, team houses, TV broadcasts, and celebrity players emerged in the early 2000s. Players like BoxeR, Flash, and Jaedong became national heroes.

Wings of Liberty to Legacy of the Void

StarCraft II launched in 2010 with Wings of Liberty, followed by Heart of the Swarm (2013) and Legacy of the Void (2015). Each expansion shifted the meta dramatically. Legacy of the Void increased the starting worker count, accelerating early game aggression.

The Serral Era

In 2018, Finnish Zerg player Serral became the first non-Korean to win a WCS Global Finals, shattering decades of Korean dominance. His precision, creativity, and consistency proved that Western players could compete at the highest level.

๐ŸŽฎ The Three Races

StarCraft II features three asymmetric races, each with unique units, buildings, and strategies:

๐Ÿค–
Terran
Human faction. Versatile military with mobile siege units, bio infantry, and powerful mechs.
๐Ÿ”ฎ
Protoss
Alien warriors. Expensive but powerful units with shields and psionic abilities.
๐Ÿชฒ
Zerg
Insectoid swarm. Fast expansion, cheap units, overwhelming numbers, and adaptation.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Betting Guide

StarCraft II betting is highly skill-dependent. The 1v1 format means no teammate varianceโ€” it's pure player vs. player. Understanding race matchups and player form is crucial.

โš”๏ธ Matchup Knowledge

TvZ, PvT, ZvP all play differently. Some players excel in specific matchups.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Map Pool

Certain maps favor certain races. Large maps = Zerg advantage. Small = Terran/Protoss.

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท Korean Advantage

Korean players still dominate GSL. Don't underestimate practice infrastructure.

๐Ÿ“Š Best-of-X Format

Bo5/Bo7 favors consistent players. Bo3 has more upset potential.
